Day Ten – Rough Break (Tok – Whitehorse)

I did mention that the ALCAN was a rough road didn’t I?  Today we discovered that Rich’s rear pipe has been torn in half – right past where it mounts to the transmission.  We thought it was just a crack but after further investigation – it’s in two pieces.  Not sure what we’re going to do at this point.  Time to go to work – in the rain….

This is the Rough Break

  1. Oh my gosh, that sucks!! I hope you guys are able to get it fixed enough to get “somewhere”, and that it doesn’t screw up the timing! Hugs all the way round!

  2. It is near midnight on a Saturday, we’re in the parking lot doing major minor mechanics here in Whitehorse. Nothing open but the bars, tomorrow is Sunday, nothing open here but the bars, next day is Monday, a Yukon holiday so, yeah you guessed it, nothing open here but the bars……………clamp it together with the heat shield holding it together and lets go…………..eh

  3. The parking lot repairs held up for the rest of the 7000 mile trip. Outside of being noisy it works fine. Think I’ll leave like that and next trip to Alaska it will already be broken and I won’t have to worry. Funny, same thing happened in 2003 when I rode the same bike to Alaska, ended up welding it in St. Louis, MO. OH WELL……….
